Rambert Issue of 72 knapsacks to the 21st Alabama Company C , also known as the “Marengo Rifles” and also as the “Witherspoon Guards”. This company was originally organized by a Captain Rembert at a place known as Rembert Hills which I am told is west of Linden, Marengo County, Alabama. Issued 28th October 1861, sign by Capt James Rembert. Most likely issued at either Camp Halls Mill , near Mobile, Al, or Fort Gaines. Capt Rembert was wounded at Shiloh April 6, 1862 at 8:30 Am attacking the 1 st Battery and died from his wounds at a Federal Hospital at St. Louis , April 26, 1862. $325.00
